Green River Distilling Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey

Green River Distilling Co. is a historic bourbon distillery located in Owensboro, Kentucky. It claims to be the 10th oldest licensed distillery in the state. But for me, it will always be "The Whiskey Without Regrets" as the company artfully built a brand on the back of a quality product and an inventive stream of sloganeering. Closed down in the 1950s and then revived in 2016, it's now owned by the Bardstown Bourbon Company, and is reviving the historic brand with creativity. 

Green River Distilling Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey is a smooth, approachable bourbon that highlights the softer side of Kentucky whiskey through a wheated mash bill and thoughtful maturation. Crafted with a higher proportion of wheat in place of rye, this expression emphasizes gentle sweetness, creamy texture, and easy drinkability while still delivering classic bourbon character.

On the nose, it offers inviting aromas of vanilla, caramel, and warm honey, accented by soft notes of baked apple and light spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, with flavors of brown sugar, toasted oak, honeyed grain, and subtle baking spice, carried by a rich, velvety mouthfeel that makes this bourbon enjoyable neat or with a splash of water.

The finish is mellow and lingering, with gentle notes of vanilla and oak. Bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) in a 750 mlformat, Green River Distilling Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon is an excellent choice for customers seeking a softer, elegant bourbon that’s versatile for sipping or as the foundation for refined cocktails.

Cask Program:
This bourbon is aged in new, charred American oak barrels with a medium char level, designed to impart balanced oak influence without overwhelming the wheat-driven sweetness. There is no secondary finishing—all maturation occurs in these barrels under Kentucky’s seasonal climate, allowing the wheat forward profile to shine with integrated oak, vanilla, and caramel development.
