Garrison Brothers Ranch Reserve Oloroso is a limited-release Texas straight bourbon that gets an unusually substantial secondary maturation:four years in new, toasted and charred American white oak, followed by another four full years in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. Rather than a brief finishing period, the whiskey spends half of its eight-year maturation in sherry wood, giving the Oloroso casks a major role in the final profile.
Where the companion PX Ranch Reserve leans sweeter and richer, theOloroso expression is drier, more savory and more structured. Aromas and flavors ofwalnut, fig and baking spice sit over Garrison Brothers’ dense Texas bourbon character, with the dry oxidative sherry contributing nutty depth, spice and a more restrained sweetness. At110 proof / 55% ABV, it remains powerful and full-bodied without losing the layered character of the long sherry maturation.
The Ranch Reserve series was created to showcase exceptional finishing barrels selected by Master DistillerDonnis Todd, and this inaugural Oloroso release was limited to approximately6,000 bottles. The combination of eight years of maturation, four years in genuine Spanish Oloroso casks and a relatively small production makes it one of the more distinctive releases from Garrison Brothers.
