Garrison Brothers Ranch Reserve PX is a limited-release Texas bourbon built around an unusually long and serious sherry-cask finish. The whiskey spendsfour years in new, toasted and charred American white oak, then anotherfour full years in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks from Spain. That gives it eight years of total maturation, with fully half its life spent in PX casks rather than receiving a short finishing period.
The PX influence is immediately apparent. Pedro Ximénez sherry is produced from sun-dried grapes, concentrating sweetness and dark-fruit character, and those casks push the bourbon toward a dense, dessert-like profile. The nose shows chocolate, toffee, caramel, raisins, figs and candied fruit. The palate is thick and viscous, with dark caramel, dried fruit, chocolate and deep toffee layered over the powerful oak and sweet-grain character of Garrison Brothers bourbon. The finish is long, rich and sherry-driven, with lingering candied fruit and dark sweetness.
At109 proof / 54.5% ABV, it has enough strength to carry the richness without becoming cloying. This is the sweeter, darker member of the first Ranch Reserve pair; the companion Oloroso release is drier and more savory. Garrison Brothers produced only about6,000 bottles of each expression, making this a genuinely limited release rather than a permanent extension of the core lineup.
