Herzog Cabernet Sauvignon, Chalk Hill

Herzog Special Edition Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

The Herzog Special Edition Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium, small-production California Cabernet sourced from the Chalk Hill appellation in Sonoma County. Chalk Hill's distinctive volcanic soils, warmer climate and long growing season provide Cabernet Sauvignon with excellent ripeness and concentration while retaining the structure necessary for extended aging.

Produced from Cabernet Sauvignon harvested at the base of Chalk Hill, the 2023 vintage was matured for 23 months in French oak barrels. Only light filtration is used before bottling, preserving the wine's concentration and character and allowing it to continue developing with additional bottle age.

Rich and full-bodied, the wine opens with concentrated blackberry and cassis complemented by an elegant oak bouquet. The palate combines ripe dark fruit with substantial structure, polished tannins and integrated French oak, leading into a long, lush finish. Its combination of Sonoma Cabernet richness and extended barrel maturation places Chalk Hill among Herzog's more serious Special Edition bottlings and makes it an excellent candidate for further cellaring.
