Masso Antico Le Anfore is an organically grown red from Salento in Puglia, made from Primitivo and Negroamaro and distinguished by an unusual two-stage maturation program. After hand harvesting, the wine is matured in cocciopesto amphorae—a traditional porous material that permits controlled micro-oxygenation—and then in French and American oak barrels.
Deep ruby in color, Le Anfore is rich and enveloping, with aromas of vanilla, chocolate, roasted coffee and a distinctive whisky-like note over ripe dark fruit. The palate is full-bodied, smooth and rounded, balancing the generous fruit of southern Italy with spice, gentle tannins and a long, harmonious finish. The combination of amphora and oak gives this a considerably more complex profile than a typical everyday Salento red.
Luca Maroni awarded it 98 points, and Schenk lists a Silver Medal from the 2026 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles for the 2023/2025 vintages shown on its current awards page.
