Stagg Batch 24B (127.8 Proof) is the second 2024 release of Buffalo Trace Distillery's highly coveted barrel-proof bourbon. Distilled from the distillery's renowned low-rye Mash Bill #1 and bottled uncut and unfiltered at its natural barrel strength of 127.8 proof (63.9% ABV), Batch 24B exemplifies the bold, full-bodied character that has made Stagg one of the most sought-after allocated bourbons in America. Though the "Jr." designation was retired in 2022, this release continues the same celebrated tradition of delivering exceptional cask-strength bourbon with remarkable richness, complexity, and value. Batch 24B is generally believed to contain bourbons aged approximately 8–9 years, allowing deep oak influence to complement Buffalo Trace's signature sweet-fruit profile.
The nose opens with aromas of dark caramel, brown sugar, ripe cherries, vanilla bean, toasted oak, cinnamon, and baking spices, accented by hints of strawberry, black pepper, and classic Buffalo Trace barrel funk. The palate is rich, oily, and intensely flavorful, offering layers of toffee, cherry cordial, vanilla cream, dark chocolate, raspberry preserves, graham cracker, cinnamon, and charred oak. Despite its formidable proof, the whiskey remains impressively balanced, with sweetness and spice unfolding in equal measure. The finish is long, warming, and lingering, delivering notes of cooked cherries, cloves, dark cocoa, seasoned oak, and a lasting Kentucky hug.
Cask Program
Stagg Batch 24B is matured exclusively in new, charred American oak barrels and bottled exactly as it comes from the barrel—without chill filtration and without dilution. Rather than showcasing a special finish or experimental maturation, the Stagg program highlights Buffalo Trace's ability to select and blend mature barrels that express maximum concentration, texture, and depth. The result is a whiskey that faithfully captures the natural flavors developed during nearly a decade of aging while preserving every nuance through barrel-proof bottling.
